The shortage of staff at Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, has left healthcare providers with no option but to work extra hours under immense pressure, as the facility has had no adjustments to its staff structure in over 15 years.
Hospital CEO Michael Malaka said at least 600 more healthcare workers were needed to not only relieve the pressure on current staff, but also for the safety of patients.
